Welcome...

...to a video tribute blog to the classic underground progressive FM rock radio sound of David Adcock. David Adcock's "Toons 'Til Two" radio show originally broadcast on the legendary WZZQ FM radio station in Jackson, Mississippi from 1983 until David's death in 2001.

His Sunday listerners were treated to the finest in progressive FM rock radio music on the air. David Adcock was a pioneer in this underground genre of cooly soft-spoken, knowing DJ's who spun magic with the album versions of the fantastic music of the 60's and 70's.

The show originally aired as 'Toons 'Til Noon' when it was broadcast from 6 a.m. until noon, later changing its air time to 8 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

The show moved to WTYX in Jackson when WZZQ left the air and every Sunday morning, thrilling guitar riffs, exhilarating horn melodies, and fantastic drum solos filled the airwaves.

David Adcock and the progressive FM stations played mostly album oriented rock, blues, jazz, and rhythm and blues, but sometimes even other genres. The sets were musically or thematically related. The sets may have been planned in advance or spontaneously put together in the studio on the air. David's deep knowledge of music meant he could spin records in the booth depending upon his mood, but his listeners often assumed he spent many hours putting them together.

The music was hand picked and played by the DJ on the air, a broadcast style known as "free-form" radio. Being from Jackson, David was an afficiendo of the blues. He often included local bands in his playlists. Invariably David would announce the names of the artists and tunes at the end of every set and throw in a few timely comments on the music between sets.

David ended every show with a sincere "I appreciate your attention." Thanks, David. We appreciate your attention more than ever.

About the videos...listening tips...

-Each video is selected on the basis of audio quality first. Progressive FM rock radio was recorded on the rich, vibrant sound of vinyl as listeners expected an aural experience of warm, clear sound with good range and separation. The album versions are generally preferred, as that is what played on air, though DJs often played live versions from albums, and here you'll see a good amount of live versions, too.

-Each page is the equivalent of one set, more or less, and the videos are meant to be played sequentially. For best results, begin the next video before the end of the video you are currently listening to at the fade of the music. Smooth sequeways were a hallmark of progressive FM rock, and the music in the videos is designed to do that, too.. Watch for occassional notes below the video to time the beginning of the next video.

-Adjust the volume on your computer. You know which direction.

-Each Sunday morning, Toons 'Til Two Revue will feature a new "set"...a page of video posts...just like you listened to in the heyday of underground progressive FM rock radio. "Tune in" each Sunday morning for a new set of the finest progressive rock inspired by the radio career of David Adcock.
